This particular category is going to have 2 pages...this one for information and the next one is going to be the gallery where you can see the photos that I took.
Today (march 25th, 2007) we went to the Westman Reptile Gardens which is near Shilo, Manitoba and close to Brandon as well. I realize that a lot of people haven't heard of this place so i'm going to add some information here. I will add a link to his website for the gardens but it does need to be updated. The place is a little tricky to find because at the present time there are no signs leading you to it. You basically just have to follow the roads and make your way there. This is the largest display of reptiles that you will find. If you've been to the Zoo in winnipeg - this place beats it by a long stretch. Its very affordable to visit as well. Under 16 years its $3 - and over 16 is just $5 and well worth the money.
We were told today that he is going to be expanding shortly and will have another wing open in hopefully another month or so and in that wing he will add some stingrays..and more crocodiles/alligators to view. If you do plan to visit...leave your jacket in the car because indoors he keeps it at around 80 degrees. Trust me you will sweat with a jacket on. I know. I wore one. The owners name is Dave Shelvey. He and his wife have been running the business for over 12 years ..so he knows his stuff. He is very nice and you will find he will answer any question you have for him.
I will write more later about the gardens but for now..here is the link:
The photo gallery is right below this page there are around 31 photos that I have posted so far. I may put a few more up later however I figure this is enough for now. These are the ones that came out quite good. I couldn't get the big alligator because he was in the water and it's kinda tough to get him. Maybe next time. Also hopefully will get there near feeding time next time as well because i'm sure that would be a neat shot to get.
He does plan on adding another wing and putting up more displays shortly so we will go back when he does. All of the photos are taken with my 7.1 megapixel camera. I hope you like them.
